CompTIA Network+ Acronyms: Full List for the N10-009 Exam

Note: the acronym list below is current for N10-009. The video walkthrough on this page is being re-recorded for N10-009 — the great majority of acronyms are unchanged from N10-008.

These are the acronyms on the exam, either as part of the question or the answers.

We are considering using a voice-over to read out the acronyms. Let us know if that is something you would like us to do in the future.

We are currently working to put out the same thing with all the other flashcards we currently have.

The Full Acronym List

Below is a working reference of the acronyms that appear on the CompTIA Network+ exam, grouped by subject rather than alphabetically — grouping is far easier to revise from, because related terms reinforce each other. CompTIA publishes the definitive list in the exam objectives PDF on their website; use this to study and that to confirm.

How to Actually Learn These

  • Group, do not alphabetize. Learning all the routing protocols together builds understanding; learning them between an unrelated A and C term does not.
  • Expand out loud. If you cannot say what the letters stand for, you do not know it — recognition is weaker than recall, and exam distractors exploit that.
  • Learn the pairs and families: IDS/IPS, RADIUS/TACACS+, SMF/MMF, RTO/RPO, IGP/EGP. They are almost always tested against each other.
  • Watch the near-collisions. STP is Spanning Tree Protocol and Shielded Twisted Pair. MTTR has several expansions. Context decides.
  • Spaced repetition beats cramming for pure recall material. Fifteen minutes daily for three weeks will do more than one long session.
